About Julia
Hello! My name is Julia, and I love to help people become stronger, faster, and more joyful runners!
As a kid, I avoided anything even remotely athletic. Gym class left me an anxious mess every time. I was far more comfortable within the world of music, and spent multiple hours practicing the piano and cello every day. I saw myself as a musician and not much more. Looking back, I’m amazed at how easily I sold myself short.
Then, in 2014, as a 26 year old adult watching Grandma’s Marathon, a switch inside me flipped. Thousands of people of all shapes and sizes were putting one foot in front of the other, choosing to forego any fears of others seeing them struggle. By actively running into (rather than avoiding) discomfort, they displayed a strength that moved me to tears. I had to try it.
5 months later, I toed the line of the Twin Cities Marathon. To date, this first marathon remains the fondest in my memory, but I’ve since gone on to run six more, and 20+ half marathons. In 2015 I achieved my dream of qualifying for the Boston Marathon, which I ran in 2017.
I’ve stuck running with it because in a sense, it’s simple — all it requires is a pair of good shoes. I’ve stuck with it because it brings sharp focus to unpredictable seasons of life. I’ve stuck with it because I’ve realized that in becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable, resilience is formed. I’ve stuck with it because it brings me into contact with hope, courage, and decisiveness. I’ve stuck with it because it reminds me that the best in my life is yet to come.
I been certified as a Level 1 Run Coach through the Road Runners Club of America since 2018. I am also certified in CPR and First Aid.
I’d love to hear what keeps you running, or makes you consider the prospect of starting! Reach out to me to start a conversation or to learn more about my coaching philosophy.
