First Family Run

Today we went on our first run at Saint City Running’s Monday group run, and we did it family style! Last week we got Graham a new jogging stroller for a steal off of FB Marketplace, and it was time to put it to the test. This thing is niiiiiice. The suspension is slick, the maneuverability pristine. It’s just missing shocks, spinners, and underlighting —- and maybe a subwoofer.

Getting out the door tonight was no small feat. Graham was fussy; late afternoons are often brutal for him as he doesn’t know if he is hungry, tired, bored, wants to be left alone or held. He cried most of the way to Saint City and continued making offended hoots as the Saint City employee explained the routes for the night. West on Ford, south on River Road, east on Elsie, north on Cleveland.

Goal: 3 miles! Off we went.

It was mostly dark when we set out. It was chilly - 27 degrees - and windy! Graham seemed to settle down pretty quickly and went silent. I poked my head over the visor 5 minutes or so in and realized that his little blue Carhartt hat had slipped down over his eyes and he was asleep. Perfect!

Pushing a jogging stroller is no joke. Even though it’s a sleek contraption, it’s heavy. GRAHAM is heavy, and we’re out of shape. The west and south stretches rolled by fairly quickly but turning off River road and schlepping north on Cleveland, straight into the wind, was rough.

Still, we made it back to the store. Mentally, we felt good. It’s a boost to get back out there, baby in tow, even when the miles are a little harder to knock out.

Grandma’s is just over 4 months away, so we have our work cut out for us! Onward.
